HAUNTING PAST OR PRESENT: Kabir Deb’s poem on the pain before and after Independence

You stay silent when we create noise ,
Just to make you remember what we lost and what we achieved,
Without a nod and shake we start the journey towards the last breath,
You bring noise when our hearts laugh while they love some more hearts,
Remembering is not in your nature which we want you to have,
We are tired of the gossip between the viral lips,
Beneath which you nurture your swords of politics,
Its dilemma brought a famine once and it’s arriving again where our angels rest,
And lights a fire where our beasts linger,
O Hunter, just remember and remember,
Your past inside different body but with the same intention,
Long time ago you shattered the realm of silence,
Noise penetrated the deep, cracked soul with sigh of pain,
A knife drew over her skin with which she quenched the hearts of murderers,
Murderers were once stranger for her,
Or they were just baking the preparation of their feast,
With a loud thud you started the fight which the nature still remembers to haunt herself,
You supplied the enzymes with a fake smile like a hyena,
Catalysts did the rest,
Rivers bled their wombs out in fear of her child should never witness hell,
The terrains extinguished her burning soil when she saw her neighbour being molested,
You became a silent king with a dictating queen over your cragged soul,
You kept torturing which followed the insane cascade which you enjoyed,
Torches were once used to split darkness into parts,
It just got bad when their works changed to vomit darkness out,
Your pawns started to take their peaceful nap,
Even when many souls just ripped themselves off along with its fragments,
You placed a meat of ‘free blood’ before some carnivores,
And they just took it without even knowing,
That you just gave them a diamond,
Without telling where her fangs lie.
