Partition – A Poem by Anamika Banerjee

71 years have elapsed,
since I was born
I solely witnessed
brotherhood and love to collapse!
I saw division of people,
my people
who had flesh,
blood and bones
as mine,
I witnessed
substantiated division
of a country into pieces two:
heeding their hatred
and rivalries.
heard only stories of brutality,
but never of affection and solidarity.
but oh my people!
I am tired, I am done
I wish to abolish my definition
I urge you – rename me
“solidarity “
rather defame me anymore as
a ‘divided self’
Partition.
